Physical activity counteracted associations of exposure to mixture of air pollutants with mitochondrial DNA copy number among rural Chinese adults

چکیده

Exposure to single air pollutant and physical activity (PA) were associated with an altered mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN). However, studies on the interactive effects of or a mixture pollutants PA mtDNA-CN limited. A total 2707 Chinese adults obtained from Henan Rural Cohort Study. Spatiotemporal models used estimate particulate matter (PMs) (PM aerodynamic diameter ? 1.0 ?m (PM1), ?2.5 (PM2.5) 10 (PM10)) nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations. Relative was measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Linear regression quantile g-computation applied examine associations relative mtDNA-CN. The visualized using Interaction plots. Each 1 ?g/m3 increment in PM1, PM2.5, PM10 NO2 5.11% (95% confidence interval: 3.71%, 6.53%), 6.77% (4.81%, 8.76%), 3.05% (2.22%, 3.87%) 4.99% (3.45%, 6.55%) increase one-quartile four related 0.053 (0.032, 0.075) Negative interaction observed. positive counteracted at certain levels, implying that may be costless effective approach decrease negative pollution

Assessment of mitochondrial DNA copy number in peripheral blood leukocyte of opiate abusers and healthy individuals

Background: Based on the studies, variation in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number in peripheral blood leukocytes is associated with increased susceptibility to diseases including cancer. Opiate abusers are at high risk for diseases. In this study, we measured the mtDNA copy number in peripheral blood leukocytes in a group of opiate abusers compared with those in healthy individuals. Met...

Mitochondrial DNA copy number and exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

BACKGROUND Increased mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) is a biologic response to mtDNA damage and dysfunction, predictive of lung cancer risk. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are established lung carcinogens and may cause mitochondrial toxicity. Whether PAH exposure and PAH-related nuclear DNA (nDNA) genotoxic effects are linked with increased mtDNAcn has never been evaluated. M...

Reference Intervals of Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number in Peripheral Blood for Chinese Minors and Adults

BACKGROUND Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content measured by different techniques cannot be compared between studies, and age- and tissue-related control values are hardly available. In the present study, we aimed to establish the normal reference range of mtDNA copy number in the Chinese population. METHODS Two healthy cohorts of 200 Chinese minors (0.1-18.0 years) and 200 adults (18.0-88.0 year...

Keratoconus is associated with increased copy number of mitochondrial DNA

PURPOSE To investigate the possible association of oxidative stress with keratoconus (KC), we estimated the changes in relative mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content. METHODS The study included 119 patients with KC and 208 controls matched for gender, ethnicity, and systemic disease status. We selected controls who were older than the patients since the mtDNA copy number tends to increase with ag...

Associations of Short-Term and Long-Term Exposure to Ambient Air Pollutants With Hypertension

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world. It is responsible for ≈30% of all deaths or ≈17.5 million people in 2012. As the major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, hypertension has been identified as the most important cause of disability and the leading risk factor for death globally and causes ≈16.5% of all deaths. The causes of hypertension are complex and are r...
